Shades of Lavender
So here is a poem I wrote a while back. It was intended to be a song and in fact was made into one. I even recorded it when I did my demo, but I hated it. It's like 7 minutes long and doesn't really work, musically. It's tough sometimes being a musician and having to settle on the fact that maybe not everything you write can turn into a song. But when you're as picky as I am, you have no choice. I thought I would post it for the enjoyment and criticism of those well-intentioned bloggers out there. Hope you like it. Oh and keep your eyes peeled for a group called "The Hired Assasins". They just came out with a song called 401K that sounds an awful lot like "Retirement Plan". If I had a lawyer, those bastards would sure be hearing from him right now. www.myspace.com/thehiredassassinsrock.
Shades of Lavender
The Motivation wears so thin
Shades of Lavender
The Motivation wears so thin
It’s been so long since I felt the tension in my skin
No time for action in this strange attraction
No time for action in this strange attraction
to remain pacified.
So I lay here
watching the shapes on the ceiling
Colliding and competing for the right to keep my attention
Waiting for shades of lavender to grace my sky
Bringing something brilliant to my life.
Inspiration knocks on my door
He wants to talk but I feel too bored.
Besides, I’m much too busy to waste my time with someone new.
Faith and I, we used to hold hands, walking down that narrow path.
I must have missed something cause now she’s gone and I feel so lonely
Not to mention, the road is much wider than before.
Vicious spiral
Colliding and competing for the right to keep my attention
Waiting for shades of lavender to grace my sky
Bringing something brilliant to my life.
Inspiration knocks on my door
He wants to talk but I feel too bored.
Besides, I’m much too busy to waste my time with someone new.
Faith and I, we used to hold hands, walking down that narrow path.
I must have missed something cause now she’s gone and I feel so lonely
Not to mention, the road is much wider than before.
Vicious spiral
come and claim your prisoner
He’s had enough and he’s ready to give in.
A beautiful arrangement of violins
He’s had enough and he’s ready to give in.
A beautiful arrangement of violins
plays the saddest song to accompany this tragic end
Can we afford to waste all this time without searching for something bigger than ourselves.

Your poem reminds me of pruning rose bushes. When they are not cut back the norishment dissipates, into dying limbs, so the branches that could grow if they received norishment die.
Did you feel that way?
That's interesting. In a way, I think I felt that way. Although I don't think it was a lack of nourishment, just reaching a low that you can't find any hope in. I think it is like pruning rose bushes in the sense that where there was once hope is now gone for some reason. It's the drudgery of moving forward without faith or hope in anything. As sad as that is, that was where I was at when I wrote it.
Those bastards. I like that you're an unwilling member of the group yourself. And if you contest, may I point out that you are in the picture, apparently smoking a wafer. Anyway, for the record, I like the music and lyrics to Shades of Lavender. It may be a bit lengthy, but all you need is a collaborative partner to help you organize it a bit (hint, hint). Also, I appreciate the compliment on "11:59". I think you should do a cover of it, since my fingerpicking is pretty sloppy and I think your playing and singing would sound more the way I heard it when I wrote it. Why am I typing all this? We should hang out and talk!!! Extra exclamation points for you, sir!!!
